07.2008_246 and Counting Exhibition at SFMOMA
A model of Airspace Tokyo screen is presented in 246 and Counting: Recent Architecture + Design Acquisitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. This exhibition, curated by Henry Urbach, departs from SFMOMA's typical exhibition format to describe how the museum collects work acquired by the Architecture and Design Department.

07.2008_333 Summer Workshop at CCA
Thom Faulders teaches a one-week workshop during the CCA 333 summer studio session in San Francisco. The topic for this year's studio is focused on Responsive Architecture, and is run in combination with workshops by Rodolphe el-Khoury and Studio (n-1), both from the University of Toronto.

06.2008_ Glass Production and Talk in Mexico City
Thom Faulders travels to Mexico City to begin work with Phuze, a producer of design objects using new innovations in glass technology. The limited production series provides an opportunity to translate architectural-scale geometries into small-scale objects, and will be distributed worldwide. Thom Faulders gives a lecture titled "Sensate Spaces".

06.2008_Deform House First to Use Fiber Optic Skylight
Deform House in San Francisco is the first building on the U.S. West Coast to install a fiber optic skylight system. Created in Europe, this system allows for natural daylight to be directed through interstitial spaces, using a rooftop bank of sun-tracking lenses that concentrates light onto fiber optic cables. The result is natural light that reaches deep into the building typically reliant on artificial lighting.

The Undercover Table.V2 travels to Milan for the House for All (Casa Per Tutti) Exhibition at La Triennale di Milano Museum in Milan, Italy. The exhibition explores new notions for contemporary living, and presents solutions for topics including temporary environments, emergency shelters, self-built homes, or special needs (floating houses, etc.). The exhibit includes full-scale houses by Kengo Kuma, MVRDV, the Red Cross, U-dome, and others.

06-10.2008_Torino World Design Capital Exhibition in Italy
The Undercover Table.V2 is presented in photos for the exhibition Flexibility: Design in a Fast Changing Society, part of a series of exhibits and events for the 2008 Torino World Design Capital exposition. The exhibit pursues the need for flexibility and new ideas in globally collective living conditions, as 90% of the world's population will be living in cities by 2050, and present-day infrastructure and urban spaces are pushed beyond capacity.

01-05.2008_Global Brand Company PPR Sponsored CCA Studio
Thom Faulders teaches an Advanced Graduate and Undergraduate architecture studio at CCA, sponsored by the Paris-based luxury brand company PPR. The pilot architecture studio is offered in parallel with Industrial Design studios, and explores the future of shopping in an age of e-commerce, personal electronics, virtual environments, and wired architecture. PPR has developed a portfolio of high-growth global brands, and is presented in 90 countries with brands including PUMA, Gucci, Redcats, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and Stella McCartney.

The Airspace Tokyo project receives international press in 2008, including an article in Canadian magazine Azure in March/April, and in the Japanese architecture magazine Shinkenchiku in March. International magazines in 2008 include Materia (Italy), Architecture and Detail (China), Lab and Interior + Design Magazine (Russia), Space (Malaysia), Archiworld and Bob (Korea), Elle Dˇcor (India), arq/a and Modern Design (Spain), Dolce Vita (Czech Republic), Flair (Egypt), Intro (Bulgaria), MARK (Holland), and arcCA, and CCA Glance in the U.S. Airspace Tokyo is also included in Archiworld's 2008 Architecture Annual book in Korea. In 2007, publications include Perspective (Hong Kong), Architecture Plus (Dubai), and the book Young Architects Americas.

Design contre Design draws parallels and provokes a dialog between iconic design objects, from the Industrial Revolution to the present.

Thom Faulders is invited to include Deform House representations in Future Wood: Innovation in Building Design + Manufacturing exhibition, presented at the University of British Columbia Parametric Modeling and Digital Wood Manufacturing Symposium. The exhibit travels to the Architecture Institute of British Columbia in Vancouver.
